Weiting (Edison) Cai joined UTSFC in late 2011 after arriving from Shanghai China in August the same year. Since that time, he devoted much of his time to training under Mr Simon Jin, the Club’s Director of Fencing. This proved to be a successful partnership, and Edison not only won a number of important competitions at the State and National level, he also ended the 2012 season as the number 1 foilist in NSW as well as the Australian ranking.
Edison is the reigning Australian National Open Champion in Men’s Foil as well as the current NSW State Open Champion in the same discipline.
Facts and trivia
Edison began fencing when he was 14, and fenced with the Shanghai squad for 7 years, training rigorously with other high performance team members and eventually being promoted to senior squad as a result of his performances.
He was the teenage national champion for two years as well as having earned a top eight performance in the Chinese National Championships.
Edison was four times winner of the Shanghai Championships.
Competition victories in 2012 included: Australian National Open Fencing Championships; NSW State Open Championships; NSW Super invitational Open Men’s Foil;
Competition victories in 2013 so far include: NSWFA Season Opener Men’s Foil;
His ambition is to represent Australia in International competitions.
