UTS veteran fencers did our club proud in the World Veterans Fencing Championships held in Sydney 14-16 September.

Julie Seggie and Anna Slowiaczek each made the top 8.

Julie entered all three events. She fenced strongly in epee placing 6th out of a field of 28, making the quarter-finals where she lost narrowly 10-9 to the silver medal winner from France. Julie also placed 16th out of 25 in foil and 11th of 22 in sabre.

Anna also had a good competition, reaching the quarter-finals and finishing 8th out of 25 in foil. In epee, Anna ranked 21st.

Duncan Fairweather made 15th out of 35 in epee, going down 10-9 in his second elimination bout to the silver medallist from Germany.

All three were the highest ranking Australians in their events.

An honourable mention too for Peter Witkop who fenced well in both foil and epee.

The World Championships, held at Olympic Park, were a great success with a lot of credit to event director Bill Ronald, operations director Jeff Gray and Tim Emmerick.
